This article presents the results of research which was concerned with the potential influence of a font type on the quality of silent reading by 2nd and 3rd grade primary school pupils. Our research findings aimed to discover whether a font type that a pupil uses for learning writing skills has influence on his/her writing development.
The research sample comprised 271 pupils (2nd grade/cursive writing, n=77; 2nd grade/Comenia Script, n=59; 3rd grade/cursive writing, n=75; 3rd grade/Comenia Script, n=60). Using quantitative methodology, we describe data obtained from a diagnostic writing test (Volín & Caravolas, 2005) and an examination of silent reading (Kucharská et al., 2016).
The research results did not affirm a statistically signi- ficant difference in the silent reading test performance between pupils using Comenia Script and pupils using the traditional cursive writing.
