Abstract

The study aims to show the possibilities and limits of the professional, i.e. professionally oriented periodicals as a source for the business history in the time period of the first three decades of the 20th century. For the purposes of the study periodical Krejčovské listy (Tailorsʼ papers) were selected, as they were connected with the Provincial Union of Tailorsʼ Associations in Bohemia and the Tailorsʼ Association in the Capital City of Prague.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the tailoring in Bohemia was facing many long-term problems, and the periodicals were there to help with their solution and with the spread of modernization. The study considers what it may or may not communicate about the reader-small businessman and the small business environment and the professional group, and how these statements change over time.
