The Accession of Subcarpathian Rus to Czechoslovakia

Abstract

The article examines the development of relations and contacts between the Czech lands, Slovakia and Subcarpathian Rus; the issue of Subcarpathian Rus during the First World War and after its end; the role of the US-based National Ruthenian Rada. The article mentions negotiations on a possible accession to the future Czechoslovak Republic between T.G.

Masaryk and Grigory Zhatkovich, as well as discussions about the fate of Subcarpathian Rus in Paris in 1919 and in Budapest at the turn of 1918-1919, discussions of the Ruthenian question in Prague. Attention is paid to some Ruthenian national councils' activities and the efforts of Ruthenians abroad in the implementation of the Czechoslovak version of deciding the fate of the territory near the Carpathians.
