The paper deals with the Duke of Transylvania Sigismund Báthory (ca. 1572-1613), among others the owner of the Libochovice estate in Northern Bohemia. Great moments of the reign of Sigismund Báthory in Transylvania are presented.
Báthory's rise took place against the background of the so-called Fifteen Years' War, i.e. the long-lasting military conflict between the Habsburg Monarchy and the Ottoman Empire. At this time in the sources we can observe the influence of Transylvanian propaganda, which manifested itself precisely by the glorification of the person of Báthory as a victor over the pagan Turks and the concept of his country as a defensive wall of Christianity.
