Abstract

In this essay, the author assumes that the powerful Masaryk myth, which has been forming since 1918 and which has become part of a broader, founding Czechoslovak myth, represents several basic archetypes that were characteristic of various periods of the life of Tomáš Garrigu Masaryk (1850-1937). also for the various roles in which he found himself over time: Hero (especially until 1918), Father (especially since 1914), Philosopher (continuously). With references to contemporary journalism, the author outlines the part of the Masaryk myth that speaks of his youth, adolescence and destiny, and attempts to deconstruct it.
