Omphalocele and gastroschisis are among the most common congenital malformations; according to many authors, with their combined incidence of 1: 2000, abdominal wall defects should be twice as common for a pediatric surgeon as, for example, esophageal atresia. We monitored the psychosomatic development in patients after gastroschisis surgery, omphalocele in the 3 years following the operation.
As part of psychomotor development, the greatest changes in our patients occur during1. year, gradually most patients reach a wider norm, in the 3rd year they are already comparable to the normal population. The results are in marked contrast to the analysis of termination of pregnancy in a prenatally diagnosed birth defect in the Czech Republic.
