Visualization is one of many paths to a deeper understanding of objects and phenomena and creating ideas about their properties. A common 3-dimensional creature draws a 3-dimensional object on 2-dimensional paper.
However, would a 2-dimensional creature understand this drawing? Furthermore, how would it investigate the properties of the given object? We — 3-dimensional creatures, are in the same situation when exploring a 4-dimensional space. Throughout the lecture, we will discuss the evolution of dimensionality from the mathematical point of view.
We will describe graphical representations of a 4-dimensional space and methods of examination of properties of 4-dimensional objects. We will also discuss interpretations of higher and lower dimensions and corresponding analogies and paradoxes in various artworks.
