The study deals with the theoretical and methodological starting points for studying the role of doc. Dr.
Milan Benes in the field of adult education theory and practice. It defines the objective of a scientific project which is an analysis and a critical evalua-tion of the lifelong work and works of a prominent Czech representative of andragogy, his professional literature and references for andragogy and the background for further professional discussion, which is now open to some extent, and attention to other possible areas of research.
The study justifies and describes selected methodological approaches of solving the research problem, including methods of qualitative research (biographical method, analysis of personal documents, analysis of publishing activities and non-standardized interview).
