This presentation responds to the article "Runes from Lány (Czech Republic) - The oldest inscription among Slavs. A new standard for multidisciplinary analysis of runic bones" (Macháček et al. 2021), released just shortly before.
It presents the important finding of a runic inscription on a bone fragment in an Early Slavic context but challenges the authors' hypothesis that the visible characters comprise the final segment of an abecedarium. It instead proposes several more-likely readings of the fragmentary letters and suggests that stem from a Germanic personal name.
