Abstract

This study deals with the elections to the board of directors of Engineering Works, formerly Breitfeld, Daněk and Co. in Prague (hereinafter Breitfeld & Daněk), from the point of view of the banks involved or interested in the company. Until the end of the Habsburg monarchy, Breitfeld & Daněk was a nationally non-differentiated company.

This fact also had a direct impact on the elections to its board of directors. The shareholders included both German and Czech capitalists, and representatives of both nationalities sat on the board of directors, too.

The text analyses how Breitfeld & Daněk's changing ties with banks in the context of specific intra-company national dynamics had an impact on the results of the elections to its board of directors and on the composition of this body.
