As teachers of civics, we have been facing the question what it means to be a citizen. Both society and the notion of citizenship have undergone changes and have to deal with such challenges as increasing inequality or social and economic consequences of climate change, to name just a few.
The paper presents multifarious ways in which Charles University Department of Civics and Philosophy deals with the ongoing societal changes and conceptualizes civic education in its new study programs to meet the requirements of current society.
