Abstract

The society in the 21st century is often described as "data-driven society" or information society. Behind the influence of the information society, the concept of data and information is coming into the academic discussion and interest of lawmakers.

Thus, especially in relation to new technologies, we may not see any systematic reflection of such concept in the legal community, legislation or case-law. The concept of data and information has the multidimensional character and it may be defined in many forms or meaning which reflects the concept of universal definition.

The article describes three concepts of information and data such as information theory, the concept of information as physical phenomenon and General Definition of Information. The focus is afterwards shifted to the concept of information and data in legal community.
