The author deals with the institute of the citizenship of the European Union and key aspects of this issue. She elaborates in a rather comprehensive manner development of Union citizenship, its characteristic features, where she compares this institute with state nationality.
Furthermore, she focuses on the content of Union citizenship, i. e. rights and duties of Union citizens, acquisition and loss of EU citizenship and the influence of Brexit on EU citizenship and free movement of persons. The author did not exhaust the topic completely since it would be beyond the scope of this monograph.
However, she deals with the most significant issues related to this topic. Principal research quesions concern the characteristics of the Union citizenship in comparison with the state nationality, benefits for Member State nationals and support of autonomy of this institute in a case-law of the Court of Justice of the EU.
The author also concentrates on current issues of the influence of COVID-19 pandemic on free movement of persons and Union citizenship and connection with the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the EU.
