In this contribution I present the topic of my doctoral thesis, which is focused on the analysis and interpretation of esp. Slavic toponomy and hydronomy in north-eastern Bavaria and western Bohemia.
Both of these regions have been the subject of comprehensive qualitative studies, which have offered valuable insights with respect to the settlement history of the area. My work seeks to now build upon this while employing the modern tools of the digital humanities and geospatial analysis.
I hereby explore the potential for deriving yet further insights from these data (for example with respect to dating) while also bringing them into comparative relief against archeological data from the same areas.
