Abstract

Hypothyroidism is a common disease with prevalence 5-10%. A therapeutic principle is replacement of thyroid hormones.

Most hypothyroid patients are treated with levothyroxine in tablets administered orally. In rare cases, intravenous administration of levothyroxine (myxoedema coma), soft gel capsules (malabsorption, intolerance, inability to achieve a target TSH with standard tablets with levothyroxine), or levothyroxine and liothyronine combined therapy (inability to achieve target TSH with levothyroxine).
