Venous thromboembolism is still a widespread condition in which genetic factors also play an important role. The purpose of this review is to summarize the current knowledge on hereditary thrombophilia and to provide a simplified classification.
There is also a consensus recommendation of three professional societies - the Czech Society for Thrombosis and Hemostasis of the Czech Medical Association of J. E.
Purkyne (CzMA), the Czech Hematological Society CzMA and the Society of Medical Genetics and Genomics CzMA for genetic testing in selected groups of patients with high risk of venous thromboembolism.
