Determinants of high desired fertility : evidence from Ugandan villages

Publication at Faculty of Social Sciences |
2007

Abstract

The article describes the results of a questionnaire survey conducted in 2005 on a sample of 856 respondents in villages in Uganda. The authors analyse the role that health risks, the economic contribution of children, cultural patterns, and the unequal position of women have on the decisions local people make about the number of children to have.

The relationship between these factors and education is also quantified in the article.
