M. Hrdlička has long been involved in Czech morphology, lexicology, language culture, didactic and translation problems, and the theory and practice of teaching Czech as a foreign language.
Since the beginning of his pedagogical career, he has belonged to the respected teachers of the Institute of Czech Studies, Faculty of Arts, Charles University, and also teaches at the Department of Czech Language and Literature, Faculty of Education, University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. He is the author of a number of monographs and a large number of articles published at home and abroad.
He is also the author of several Czech textbooks for foreigners.
