Virtual reality (VR) is becoming an affordable technology and has the potential to be used in psychiatry. Cue-exposure therapy (CET) is used as an effective method in craving management in people with addiction.
VR is applied for exposure simulations in CET. We are presenting a continuation of a review article published in 2019.
In order to make such a review we searched for articles in the database PubMed according to key words "virtual reality & addiction"; "virtual reality & cue exposure therapy". We found 15 relevant articles published until January 10, 2021.
Those articles were further divided into 3 groups. The first group includes 3 individual studies to verify the applicability of VR in opioid, cocaine and cannabis addiction.
The second group consists of 7 studies to verify the applicability ofVR in alcohol addiction whereas the third group consists of 5 studies to verify the use ofVR in alcohol addiction treatment.
