In this paper, we try to find out how the nonprepositional genitive phrases and idioms behave from the semantic and structural point of view, i.e. we analyse secondary functions of genitive constructions. Using Czech and Slovak national language corpora, we discover some rules of structural-semantics interface of nonprepositional genitive phrases and idioms and we indicate correspondences and differences between primary and secondary functions of genitive constructions.
We considered semantic and structural analyses of nonprepositional genitive phrases and idioms. Results indicate that there are some specific phenomena within genitive phrases and idioms, e.g. the occurrence of singularia tantum or pluralia tantum in determining or determined components of examined phrases.
