Problems of the Polish-Czech translation of past participles on the examples from the parallel corpus InterCorp
Abstrakt
The article focuses on the problem of past adverbial participles in translation between two West Slavic languages. In this case, the source is Polish language, whereas the target language is Czech.
The analyzed forms of certain verbs commonly occur in Polish, while in Czech the similar patterns are rarely used, and regarded as textbook style. The material used in the analysis consists of excerpts from the parallel language corpus InterCorp 10th version (2017).
The most common structures that appear in Czech translation are finite forms of verb, forming dependent clauses of many types (mostly time clauses), or coordinate clauses. Apart from them, the results also include nouns, present and past adverbial participles as well as ellipses in Czech translation.
