Abstract

Support for important sectors of the French economy, such as trade, crafts and agriculture, has intensified since the mid-18th century. With the liberalization and multiplication of associations, there has been more generous and thorough support for the industry, which has gained in importance.

In the 19th century, the prototype was a financially motivating and new technology promoted by the Society for the Encouragement of National Industry. Thanks to its expert membership base, enlightened activities and the publication of a technical journal, it has become a driving force not only in French industrial development, but also in the circulation of scientific knowledge of international importance.
