Abstract

Medical neurosciences are currently the fastest growing interprofessional scientific discipline. They examine the functional organization and functions of the human central nervous system as the basis for understanding human thinking and behavior, both in health and in disease.

The book "Medical Neurosciences", which reflects the need for education in this most dynamically developing scientific discipline, is published in Slovakia and in the Slovak language for the first time. The book is a comprehensive professional text for future scientists in medical neurosciences, but also an inspiration for students and young doctors interested in neurosciences.

The chapters of this new monograph reflect changes in the health education of a new generation of specialists. The authors are important experts in the theoretical and clinical fields of medicine, and in their original chapters they have benefited from many years of pedagogical experience and their scientific contribution in various areas of medical neuroscience with the addition of new knowledge and challenges.

The implementation of new approaches, which are the content of the published work, will bring significant changes for society in the coming years, for example in the implementation of the inclusion of neurologically and psychiatrically disadvantaged populations such as people with autistic disorder. The publication is divided into eight consecutive chapters.

In the introduction there are chapters focused on neuroanatomy, neurohistology and neurophysiology, followed by chapters devoted to the development of the nervous system, sensory, motor and regulatory systems. In the final chapters, the book deals with behavioral and cognitive neurosciences.

The individual chapters begin with a theoretical part, followed by a clinical part devoted to selected neurosurgical, neurological and psychiatric diseases and the direction of further clinical research. The interprofessional approach is the basis for translational research and the implementation of current knowledge in neuroscience in clinical medicine and for the faster application of new proven approaches in the prevention and treatment of nervous and mental illnesses.

This textbook has the ambition to be more than a basic mediator of theoretical and clinical knowledge related to medical neurosciences. It wants to convey comprehensive information through a text that offers the integration of basic neuroscience knowledge with practical outcomes in terms of development, health and disease of the individual as a basis for personalized medicine.

The impetus for the preparation and publication of this publication was the accreditation of the study program of the third degree of university studies in medical neuroscience at
