Child palliative care in the Czech Republic and Canada - similarities and differences

Abstract

In June 2019, I accepted an offer to become a mentor of the Motol Child Support and Palliative Care Team in Prague as part of a two-year EU grant. Still, when I was asked me to evaluate the similarities and differences between the health care system in the Czech Republic and Canada and between children palliative care in both countries, I initially felt that I haven't had enough opportunities to get proper insight into the Czech mentality and the Czech health care system to be able to make such a comparison.

The pandemic did not allow me an intense personal experience under the grant, as originally planned, however virtual connection that I maintain with the Czech community palliative medicine, clearly showed some differences and the consensus I heard from the members of the Children's Team support and palliative care FN Motol.
