This article deals with the study and professional focus of today's students. Specifically, the work is focused on generation Z, because it is to this generation Z that most of the current students belong, and career counseling.
At the beginning, generation Z is defined together with the influences that shaped it. Then follows the general characteristics of members of this young generation.
Then Generation Z is characterized in various environments, at school and at work. The work of important researchers in this field, such as Mark McCrindle or Sarah Sladek, was mainly used to describe generation Z.
The last part is devoted to career counseling, where this type of counseling is described, including its providers. Based on the available research, it is shown how students decide on their future career and study career.
The data are taken from previous researches, especially from works of Hloušková; Hlaďo and Drahoňovská; and Drahoňovská and Šťastnová. The article can provide sufficient information for all those who are interested in this young generation, which is just entering the labor market, and importance of knowing and engaging this generation is increasing.
