Abstract
The paper explores the role that social media plays in democratizing public communication in contemporary Turkmenistan. Based on the public sphere concept as a theoretical framework, the research seeks to answer how emerging citizen journalism influences the practice of freedom of thoughts and expression in Turkmen society and its ability to challenge the authoritarian regime in Turkmenistan.
