Abstract

The up-to-date classification of lung cancer includes not only the morphological subdivision into squamous cell carcinoma, adenocarcinoma and other less common subtypes, but also the integration of molecular testing. The current standard of predictive testing of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in the Czech Republic is the determination of genomic alterations of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) and ROS1 (ROS proto-oncogene 1) in all non-squamous carcinomas and programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression in all NSCLC.

With the increase in therapeutically relevant predictors, next generation sequencing is expected to be the only economically viable way for the future.
