Abstract

Directive (EU) 2019/1158 of the European Parliament and of the Council aims to ensure work-life balance for parents and carers. With the end of the transposition deadline approaching, the Directive is being touted as a unique legal instrument for ensuring work-life balance.

However, besides the Directive, there have long been international standards formulated by the International Labour Organisation, which deal with the subject. The subject of this paper is an analysis of the relevant ILO conventions and recommendations, an assessment of their impact on the Czech Republic and a comparison with the Directive.
