Abstract

Theoretical conceptions of grief offer different perspectives on both the process of grief and the possible interventions provided to those who need support during the response to the death of a loved one. The grief as complex network model (GCN) views the response to the death of a loved one as a network of interconnected expressions that is non-trivial and complex.

The approach allows one to view the current situation not only in terms of describing the elements present in grief, but also their interconnectedness. This partial case study presents a view of the initial form of grief of Anna (17 years old), who used the servicesof a bereavement support organisation, through the prism of CGN.

It describes the initial form of Anna's response to the death of her friend and articulates possible future directions for the interventions provided. In doing so, it suggests the possible clinical application of CGN and its distinctiveness from selected theoretical conceptions of bereavement / grief.
