Th e transition to online teaching due to the covid-19 pandemic highlighted the importance of teachers having the skills and knowledge to deliver classroom instruction in an online format. While this change posed challenges to teachers all around the world, the challenges were manifold for Lebanon. Concurrent with the global pandemic, Lebanon was also suff ering its worst economic crisis in history, intensifying political tensions, and long hours of daily power outages.
Th is paper will indicate the challenges that Lebanese teachers faced in online teaching and the strategies they used to deal with these challenges during the 158 academic year 2020-2021. It will identify the perceptions of teachers about how the knowledge bases gained during teacher education studies helped in online teaching in times of crises. Finally, this paper will present suggestions of reforms that should be implemented in teacher education programs to prepare teachers for teaching online in times of crises.
