The 16th Seminar of International Association for Tibetan Studies was the largest international Tibetan conference of the congress type, organized by the Faculty of Arts of Charles University and the Oriental Institute of the Academy of Sciences. The conference was held under the auspices of the Mayor of Prague Zdeněk Hřib, the President of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic Eva Zažímalová and the Rector of Charles University Milena Králíčková. The conference was attended by about 1000 guests, including about 650 active participants with contributions from 42 countries. It was divided into about 50 individual sessions on topics ranging from digital technologies, linguistics, archaeology, anthropology, Buddhology, ethnography, history, gender studies, and studies of ancient Tibetan manuscripts and research on the Tibetan Buddhist canon.
The conference included an exhibition of archival photographs of the Tibetan Army from 1895-1959, presented as part of the ERC's "Tibetan Army" project. Over ten book publishers from the USA, India and Europe presented their products.
