Word problems have long been one of the critical areas in mathematics teaching, i.e. topics that cause difficulties for both pupils and teachers. At the same time, word problems are a tool with which we can connect the world of mathematics with the real world and develop both mathematical and reading literacy.
The aim of this paper is to familiarize the reader with selected approaches to the assignment of word problems that are used in Singaporean mathematics. These are several ways of entering word problems in a form that leads to creative and critical thinking.
The contribution relates to a workshop where worksheets and experiences with their use in Czech schools were presented.
