Possible Directions (of Research) in the Didactics of the Humanities

Publication

Abstract

Teaching Civics (in primary schools), social studies (in secondary schools), history, and geography (based partly on social geography, which is not a purely natural science) can be seen together as teaching the humanities or social sciences. Didactics plays a crucial role in shaping the objectives, content, and forms of teaching.

However, it is also essential to understand the underlying sciences to define the content of teaching humanities or social science subjects. For this reason, research at faculties of education and teacher training institutes should be oriented both towards theoretical and empirical research in the given field and the development of appropriate didactics, including content.

The workshop will focus on the issues and problems arising from this specific knowledge transfer between the humanities and social sciences and didactics or teaching in primary and secondary schools. We welcome contributions from the fields of didactics of social sciences, history, and geography, as well as from the sphere of related pedagogical research.
