Professor Hrodek's century in pediatric hematology and oncology

Abstract

Professor Hrodek was the founder of Czech pediatric hematology, an internationally recognized scientist who in the 1960s published priority research results on the peculiarities of coagulation in the newborn period, acted as a WHO expert for pediatric oncology and lived through and actively influenced the entire fascinating era of progress in the treatment of leukemia and hemophilia in children , from a 100% fatal disease like leukemia in the 1950s, to a 90% chance of cure today, from the disabling disability of boys with hemophilia to an almost normal quality of life.
