Touch the cartographic heritage

Abstract

The goal of the contribution is to introduce the processing and the accessing of the cartographic culture heritage in the Map collection of Faculty of Science, Charles University. There were professionally described 100 000 cartographic documents and 65 000 were digitalized thanks to the project of Ministry of Culture.

Furthermore, the documents were made available in the Digital Map Collection and Digital University Repository. Thanks to its accessibility was the work of F.

G. Camocia (1565) entered into the Register MoW UNESCO.

There were also 3D globes and geomorphologic models accessed. The data were aggregated into digital libraries nationally as well internationally.

Promotion exhibitions were organized that are available also in digital form. There were web pages made accessing digital map collections in Czech Republic and worldwide.

The consequences of the digitalized form of academic culture heritage are discussed in conclusion.
