Czech universities were deeply with the Munich Agreement and 15 March 1939. The Slovak autonomous government expelled Czech teachers from Slovak universities where they had been engaged.
On 17 November 1939 German invaders closed Czech universites, executed nine students representatives, and transported 1200 students to the concentration camp in Sachsenhausen. Many students in the Czechoslovak Army in Exile they took part in the struggles for freedom.
The University of Oxford in substitution of the closed Czech universities, awarded degrees to them.
