Abstract
Local communities represent the living world of people, which is open to many influences - economic, environmental, demographic, social and cultural changes, etc. values of an active civil society. Citizens are faced with the choice of either passively accepting events and phenomena, or actively advocating for developments that embody the vision and values of an active civil society.
The chapter points to some possibilities for active participation and brings a case study from a selected city in the Czech Republic.
