Abstract

The Pacinian corpuscle is a rapidly adapting mechanoreceptor, mediating the perception of vibration stimuli. It consists of an elongated axon terminal surrounded by a lamellar inner core of Schwann cell origin that is encased in a multilayered outer core of concentric lamellae of cells of perineurial origin.
