Abstract
The study is focused on the newspapers written in the Czech-language and published in Vienna during the authoritarian regime in the years 1934 to 1938. In that period Viennese Czechs could choose from two daily newspapers which - in spite of the revision of political party life and strict censorship - still reflected, to some extent, the existing political stratification within this ethnic minority group.
The authors examine in particular the Viennese Newspaper that replaced the traditional Viennese Workers Newspaper, following the liquidation of the social democratic movement in February 1934. The study also offers a brief insight into the context surrounding the origin and development of the paper during the respective period; in its analytical section the article seeks to describe the image of Jews, as conveyed on the pages of the selected periodical.
