Bronchogenic carcinoma is one of the most common malignancies not only in the Czech Republic but also worldwide, and unfortunately, it is typically characterised by a high mortality rate. In patients with non-small cell lung cancer with confirmed ALK translocation, a significant effect of targeted therapy with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI) has been shown.
Alektinib, a second-generation TKI, substantially prolonged the time on treatment in the ALEX trial with a median progression-free survival of 34.8 months while maintaining a good quality of life. An example of this progress is provided in the following case report, which describes a successful treatment of patient with ALK-positive lung adenocarcinoma.
