Abstract
The article deals with conceptual metaphors connected with the presentation of the European Union in the Czech political discourse. Political discourse is a part of the complex relationships between politicians and society and is aimed at shaping political reality.
A conceptual metaphor reflects the speaker's (politician's) perception of the world and can influence the recipient's worldview. The analysis of conceptual metaphors used to represent the European Union (EUROPEAN UNION IS A HOUSE, EUROPEAN UNION IS A BODY, EUROPEAN UNION IS A MECHANISMUS) can be used both for understanding the linguistic picture of the world and for identifying manipulative speech strategies.
