Abstract
The essays deals with the foundation of Prague University in 1437-1439, inquires the steps leading to the university foundation, describes the role of the king, the arch-bishop of Prague, the nobility and the towns-people connected with the foundation of 'studium generale' in Prague and analyses the initial form of Prague University during the rule of Charles IV.
