The study examines the translatological approaches in the conveyance of proper names from/into Bulgarian and Czech. The purpose is to identify the more specific cases, which could mislead or impede the translator.
Taking into account the onymical diversity, the attention is focused on particular types of anthroponyms and toponyms. The starting point for analysis is the distinction between home and foreign proprial units.
In a addition, not only the lexical-grammatical features of the considered onymic systems are compared, but also the discoursal parameters (formality, expressiveness) are taken into account.
