Precarious identities, precarious emotions: Czech, Polish and (East)German discourses on non-normative sexual and gender identites, and their contexts
Abstrakt
Sexuality and gender minorities have long been the target of populist actors. In our paper we will be comparing the discoursive position of sexual and gender minorities in selected media sources (left/right-wing and centrist media, populist twitter accounts, and so-called manipulative online media) in Poland, Czechia and former East Germany in regard to gender and sexual normativity (cis- and heteronormativity) that they seek to (re)produce, highlighting the influence of the politics and society of these three countries: Poland, which is strongly religious and populist, Eastern Germany, which is more liberal but has strong nationalist and "ostalgic" elements, and Czechia, which has a rather socially liberal society but has experienced technocratic populism.
In our analysis we focus on the discursive precarisation of individuals and groups of non-normative gender and sexual identities, but also on the way populist actors are using these topics and groups to target individuals and social groups in pracarious socio-economic positions.
