Banks as patrons of archiving

Publication at Faculty of Arts |

Abstract

Czechoslovak banks began to appear more significantly in the position of patrons in the period of the first and second Czechoslovakia. It is significant that the banks did not underestimate this activity, as it completed their image and strengthened their position in society.

Their support was mostly aimed at philanthropic purposes, but they also supported science and culture. Therefore, even requests for support from the archives could not remain a party of interest.

These requests appear especially during the period of occupation, when funds were needed for the protection or rescue of archives. In the post-war period, bank subsidies were supposed to help restore the archives.
