Neolithic and Bronze Age Trade in the Northwestern China

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2022

Abstract

The article focuses on the turquoise and cowry shell trade in the northwestern China - i.e. today's Gansu and Qinghai provinces - in the Late Neolithic and Early Bronze Age. Given the geografical distribution of their finds in the Northwest, it is suggested that the local human groups acquired these materials through trade with foragers living on the Tibetan Plateau.
