Jan Felkl and Son : lithographic printing plates

Publication |
2023

Abstract

The contribution presents research on 18 lithographic plates preserved in the Central Bohemian Museum in Roztoky nad Vltavou. For nearly 100 years, the unique manufactory produced large number of globes in 8 sizes and 17 world languages.

From the preserved printing plates, it was possible to find out how the printing process, emendations, and the reuse of the stones took place. Images, texts and colours were gradually printed on the paper.

The emendations were done at geopolitical changes. There were also some unique versions such as French and English.

New names and corporations have also appeared. It is assumed that the printers could have worked with up to 365 stones in the manufactory.

Many of the stones are still found among the residents of Roztoky and there is hope that the research on the lithographic plates can thus continue in the future.
