Social, cultural and educational services of Czech collective management organizations from the perspective of their beneficiaries

Abstract

In addition to granting licenses to works and other protected subjects, the tasks of the collective management organizations include provision of services for represented right holders. The subject of this study is the social, cultural and educational services of Czech CMOs, which are examined using qualitative and quantitative social science methods.

Our research reveals a critical attitude of represented artists towards CMOs, but no general condemnation. It was confirmed that collective management organizations have an "image problem"; and need to improve communication about their activities.

Appropriate marketing of social, cultural and educational services could earn them the loyalty of those who typically demand such services, even when they know they have been funded by collected royalties.
