The present article delineates how the leading Frankfurt School thinker Theodor W. Adorno's time in the United States influenced his cultural work and conceptual persona, both while he lived there from 1938 to 1953 and after.
The article gives a new angle of vision on the resocialization of Adorno's intellect and ideological universe as a result of the cultural climate and environment of the United States. The critical text will argue that Adorno benefited greatly from his American sojourn both while in residence in the U.S. and afterwards, upon his return to Germany, where his most complex and mature works were produced, not least in terms of the process of maturation his intellect Underwent as a result of his American experiences and encounters.
Adorno's interactions with other Central European intellectuals who also lived in the U.S. will also be elucidated as an important facet of his intellectual development.
