Chapter 2. The Case Study: Sarah Kane's 4.48 Psychosis 2.2.Critical Perspectives on 4.48 Psychosis 2.3. Non-summative Image of Clinical Psychosis on Stage 2.4. Non-cumulative Affective Economy of Dissociation and Objectification

The presented extracts from the draft chapter of the dissertation on Sensation and Affect: Embodiment and Violence in Visual Arts, Theatre and Performance focus on demonstrating two of the three points of the thesis' arguement. As such the extracts descuss how the use of the medical history as a sample of writing is incorporated into the playtext manipulating the conventional positions associated with theatre and drama, i.e the notions of the character on stage and audience. Using Sara Ahmed's concepts of contingency and contact as the foundation of cumulative affective economy, the analysis demonstrates that despite the contingency of the representation on stage and the audience, Kane's play precludes any contact, thus creating non-cumulative affective economy.
